Every morning, I get up early, turn on my TV, turn on my Xbox, go to the Youtube app, select a video on the Yoga With Adriene Channel and complete a yoga practice. At the end of this morning’s video, Adriene offered a very powerful affirmation that I want to share with all of you:
“The Universe is for me and so is everything else.”
I have heard hundreds of affirmations, but for some reason, this one really resonated with me. So often, we are bogged down with our negative thinking and limiting beliefs. How many times, when something bad has happened, have you said, “This always happens to me,” “This always goes wrong,” or “I knew this wasn’t going to work.” On a subconscious level, all of these negative thoughts and beliefs come from a deeper belief that you are not worthy of getting what you want and that you are not good enough if you do not have what you want.
What You Believe is Exactly What You Will Attract
So, if you believe that a certain negative thing will always happen to you, then you will always attract situations, people and events that confirm that negative belief.
The Universe is Merely a Mirror to Your Beliefs
Consequently, it can only reflect your beliefs back to you and it cannot reflect anything that you do not believe is possible.
For example, if you believe that there are no employment opportunities, then the Universe will reflect this back to you by only attracting you to job postings that require experience levels far beyond what you possess, bringing you crappy job opportunities, and leading you to the black hole of reading depressing articles about how you are doomed to unemployment or jobs that you hate.
Similarly, if you are single and believe that all men or women cheat, then you will only attract people who cheat, attract people who don’t cheat but you act so jealous and bitter that you repel the other person or you constantly engage in conversations with all of your bitter friends about how everyone is dishonest and how you will be single forever.
When you go into this negative cycle of thinking, all the Universe can do is mirror these negative beliefs back to you.
But, if you believe that “the Universe is for me and so is everything else,” that challenges your current negative belief system.
Instead of believing that things always go wrong, people are always against you or that you are not worthy of what you want, you are telling the Universe that you believe that things are working in your favor. And the Universe must mirror this back to you.
Limiting Beliefs Are Not Eliminated Overnight
Esther Hicks has a great analogy of a big boulder falling down a hill. It has a lot of momentum and in you stepped in front of it to try to stop it, you would get run over. The same thing applies to your negative thoughts and beliefs. You have been practicing them for so long that they have a tremendous amount of momentum. This momentum cannot be stopped immediately and trying to do so will only frustrate you and lead you back to your familiar, subconsciously safer, negative beliefs. But, if you let the boulder get to the bottom of the hill, come to a rest and then start to slowly push it the other way, eventually, you will gain momentum in the opposite direction.
Once you begin to believe that the Universe is working with you instead of against you, you will gradually see positive changes in your life. Your negative beliefs will still pop up, but countering your negative beliefs with affirmations is one of the strongest ways to eventually eliminate them.
So, give it a try, write down “The Universe is for me, and so is everything else” on a piece of paper or index card and put it somewhere that you can see it throughout the day. Whenever you are irritated with something, say the affirmation to yourself in your head and see how much better it makes you feel.
If you do this for a few days and notice a difference, let me know in the comments!
