My fellow litigators, have we all experienced this, or is it just me? You meet with a potential client, even though you usually don’t do free consultations. You spend over an hour with them, going over the strengths and weaknesses of their case. They thank you for your time and say they will be back the next day with a check. Then, they disappear off the face of the earth never to be heard or seen from again.
This won’t ruin you if this happens once in a while, but it can be costly if you make it a habit.
There is nothing that you did wrong, some people just don’t respect your time. Just remember that your time is valuable and that your advice is not free. Limit your consultation time and you will attract clients who will respect your time and are serious about doing business with you.
